3 killed, 7 injured in mishap near Kancheepuram
Three persons, including two women, were killed and seven others injured after a lorry collided with their vehicle near Walajabad in neighbouring Kancheepuram on Sunday morning. The deceased, residents of Porur, were on their way to Nayakankuppam village to attend a funeral of a three-year-old boy.

Among the seven injured, two of them are children – aged 10 and 3. The deceased were identified as Chitra (38), wife of Nagendran, Jagadambal (58) wife of Gajendran and driver Sakthivel of Mangandu.
The mishap happened on Kancheepuram–Oragadam Road. Other motorists noticed the accident at around 3.30am. While the driver died on the spot, nine others were taken to the Chengalpattu GH. However, two women succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
After preliminary inquiry, the police said that the family members and friends hired a car and were on their way to attend the funeral of S Kishore (3), who died of illness on Saturday. When they were at Kattavakkam junction, about 5 kms away from Walajabad, a cement-laden lorry coming from the opposite direction lost control and collided head on with the car.
The vehicle was thrown off in the impact. The police identified the injured as Valliappan (38), Nagendran (26), Anjugam (26), Madhavan (17), Rabiya (3), Vijayalakshmi (38) and Bharath (10) are undergoing treatment at the hospital. The Walajabad police registered a case and arrested the driver of the lorry.
