“I was with my mother at the waiting hall in Tower II on Saturday morning, when I suddenly heard a loud noise. When I stepped out, I saw fire personnel arriving as a wind glass panel had broken. Luckily no damage was caused. However, the glass could easily have fallen on somebody in the Tower,” said Meenakshi K, an attender to a patient at RGGGH.

She said there was some amount of chaos and tension until the problem was sorted and it became known that no one was hurt in the incident.

Stating that it was a challenge to remove the glass panel before it could fall, a fire official said, “The glass panel broke and it was hanging when we received an alert through the control room. Personnel from the Esplanade Fire Station went to the spot and removed the glass from the terrace after a struggle. They tied panel with a rope and pulled it out before it broke and fell again. If it had fell again, the incident could have turned out to fatal.”

Dr R Jayanthi, Dean, RGGGH, said, “The glass cracked in Tower II because of the wind. It was closer to the top floor, so it didn’t prove to be risky. However, the fire personnel sorted it out immediately.”
