The incident happened around 9.45 pm, a few minutes after the truck was parked near the St John’s International Residential School. The passers-by alerted the highway patrol team and tried to put out the fire. However, the mini-truck was completely gutted and the driver, G Adikesavan of Otteri, was charred to death.

The Nazarathpet police retrieved Adikesavan’s body and sent it to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination and informed his parents and the vehicle owner about the incident. The samples from mini-truck was sent for motor vehicle inspection to find out whether some mechanical glitch caused the fire. The police are investigating if miscreants set the vehicle on fire.

As Adikesavan reportedly neither raised an alarm nor attempted to step out of the vehicle, the police are waiting for the autopsy results for further probe. Currently, they have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 174 of the CrPC. Adikesavan had joined as driver with his current employer only three months ago and was unmarried, said the police.
