Chennai
On July 25, five commuters who were traveling on an EMU had lost their lives when the one of their bag got entangled in the concrete fence at platform number four at St Thomas Mount station. Hours before that, another pair of commuters had met with the same fate at the same spot.
Following that, the public demanded the removal of the concrete fence from the platform. But officials said that it would only result in more accidents. It was finally decided to realign the track to prevent such accidents.Â
The work had commenced in August and was promised to be completed in four months and until such time movement of fast-local trains was suspended.
Since the realignment work got over as scheduled, Commissioner of Railway Safety KA Manohar visited the spot and conducted an inspection.Â
Now, with the work being completed commuters are hopeful that the services of fast-local trains which were suspended will be resumed soon.
