Uttam Shyam Lal (50) complained of chest pain while travelling to Indonesia from Qatar on Qatar Airways flight (QR958). There were 247 passengers on board. After Uttam Shyam Lal sounded an alarm, the cabin crew informed the pilot. As the aircraft was flying near the city, the pilot contacted the Air Traffic Control (ATC) seeking to make the emergency landing here. The permission was granted and the flight landed around 3.30 am at the city airport.
A medical team, which was waiting at the spot, went inside the cabin and conducted tests. They found Uttam Shyam Lal was in a critical condition and decided to admit him to a city hospital.
The immigration officials issued an emergency visa to the patient and he was rushed to the private hospital.
Later around 4.50 am, the flight took off again to Jakarta with 246 passengers.
It may be recalled that a 37-year-old woman passenger on a Chennai-bound flight from West Bengal died of cardiac arrested on Monday. She was on her way to Puducherry for treatment.
