Rotten meat parcel seized at Egmore: Three arrested
The Railway Protection Force arrested three people for falsely booking the rotten meat parcel as fish, on Saturday. While it was initially suspected to be dog meat, tests confirmed it was either goat or sheep.
Chennai
Imran of Jodhpur in Rajasthan, Munna Kurshi of Gandhidham in Gujarat and Usman of Chennai were arrested under Sections 163 (giving false account of goods), 165 (unlawfully bringing offensive goods on a railway) and 145 B (commits any nuisance or act of indecency or uses abusive or obscene language) of the Railway Act.
“Usually, the sender should declare the content of a parcel called the forwarding note. In this case, it has been wrongly mentioned as fish. Also, the meat was rotten before it reached Chennai,” said RPF inspector Mohan. They were arrested and released on station bail. Their records will be submitted to the magistrate and the RPF will act as per court’s direction, said RPF police.
The Food safety officials found over 1,000 kg of rotten meat in 11 boxes at Chennai Egmore railway station on November 17. RPF personnel smelt a stink from parcels kept on platform number 5 and seized them for inquiry.
