Man, girl killed as lorry hits bike in Tiruvottiyur
A 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old girl were killed after a container lorry ran over them near Tiruvottiyur on Friday night. After the accident, angry residents damaged more than 10 container lorries parked on roadside.

R Abbas (21), a fisherman from Ennore and his friend S Ameer Nisha (19) of Kaladipet were bound to Tiruvottiyur in a bike when a container lorry hit the bike from behind near Apparswamy Koil Street.
In the impact, the two fell on the road and the truck ran over them. While the truck driver fled the spot, irate public pelted stones at the container lorries parked nearby and damaged the windshield of more than 10 vehicles.
The public claimed that accidents are frequent on the Ennore Express Highway due to the recklessness of container lorry drivers. Tiruvottiyur police reached the spot and pacified the public. The Washermenpet Traffic Investigation police have registered a case and sent the bodies to the Stanley Medical College Hospital. The police have launched a hunt for the driver.
In another accident, Rashwa Begum (21), a resident of Washermenpet who had gone to visit her relative in Thandavalur village at Sunguvarchatram at Kancheepuram was fatally knocked down when a car hit her two-wheeler and sped away on Friday. The Sunguvarchatram police registered a case and further investigations are on.
Another road accident fatality was recorded when Selvaraj (51), a resident of Sarala Nagar was trying to cross the Chennai - Tiruchy NH at VRP Chatram around 12.45 pm. A car hit Selvaraj and fled the spot immediately. The passers-by tried to spot the vehicle but in vain. Selvaraj was thrown off the bike and suffered head injuries. Selvaraj was rushed to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
