Mint residents have no respite from bad roads
Six months ago, residents of Mint, fed up with the civic body’s lackadaisical approach towards bad roads, had demanded prompt action. Especially the TH Road and Cemetery Road with heavy vehicular traffic, mostly heavy vehicles, have been in a bad state for many years now.

After repeated follow-ups, the Corporation had relayed the road. Now, the road is back to being battered and bumpy, allege residents, highlighting the shoddy job of road repairs that have been carried out.
The road that links Mint to Ennore and Tiruvottiyur is frequented by water tankers and a busy bus route. “I had even recorded a video which shows how the road works have been below average. They only fill it with gravel and the tar coating is extremely thin. The video had shown how you can easily scrape the surface of the road with your finger. How will such a road be suitable for a place that sees all kinds of vehicle movements,” V Hemraj, a resident said.
Residents said that the uncovered gravel in the past had caused a string of accidents on a single night, with about three commuters on two-wheelers skidding on the stretch.
After the video, the Corporation authorities had yet again tried to patch up the roads. However, in just a few months, the road is broken and uneven, the residents added.
The residents also pointed out that there are schools in and around the locality and it is a risk for everyone. “Especially the part of the road near the bus stop is extremely damaged,” Hemrajpointed out.
A senior official from Zone 5 said that they hadn’t received any feedback from the residents on the current state of the road. “We will look into the problem and take the needful action,” said the source.
