Mentally challenged man beaten to death in Kanchi
A 22-year-old intellectually challenged youth was murdered by a couple, who were his distant relatives, after he allegedly tried to attack them with a club, near Kancheepuram on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as K Govindaraj from Veliyur village near Kancheepuram. The police arrested Velaiyudam (37) and his wife Malar (30) from the same neighbourhood in connection with the murder. Â
Police said Velaiyudam and Malar were distant relatives of Govindaraj. He used to visit their house regularly and fight with the couple. He claimed that they had cheated his family and took all their properties. He also used to allegedly disturbed other residents in the neighbourhood by knocking on their doors at nights, the police said.
According to the police, Govindaraj went to Velaiyudam’s house and started fighting with the couple on Tuesday night. After a while, he started attacking them with a club he had carried with him. Apparently unable to control Govindaraj, the couple retaliated. As they attacked him with wooden logs, he became unconscious and collapse there. On hearing his cries, their neighbours rushed to the spot and took all the three to the Kancheepuram Government Hospital.
The medical team at the hospital declared Govindaraj dead on arrival. The other two were admitted to hospital for treatment. On information, the Kancheepuram Taluk police visited the spot and registered a case after which Velaiyudam and Malar were arrested.
