    Bike-borne men rob 3 women of gold in separate incidents

    Between 9.30pm and midnight on Monday, unidentified bike riders robbed three women of their gold jewellery in separate incidents in south Chennai suburbs.

    The first incident took place in Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road around 9.30pm when 42-year-old Manjula, a resident of Kovilambakkam near Madipakkam was returning home on a two-wheeler along with her daughter Sita (21). They were returning on their scooter after a shopping spree in Chromepet when two men on a bike overtook and intercepted them. They were wearing helmets so the women could not take a good look at their faces.


    The riders approached the women and snatched a 5-sovereign chain from Manjula’s neck before assaulting both of them. They suffered minor injuries and later filed a complaint with the Pallavaram police.


    In the second case, 45-year-old Mahalakshmi and her husband Rajan, residents of Pammal, were returning home after attending a marriage at Thoraipakkam, when the assailants struck.


    They were nearing Echankadu around 10.30 pm, when two men wearing helmets on a two-wheeler chased them and hit their bike. The couple fell and were injured. The men used this opportunity to snatch Mahalakshmi’s 15-sovereign ornaments and fled the spot. The couple then approached the Chitlapakkam police and received treatment at a private hospital in Pammal.


    In the last incident, 39-year-old Devi Buvaneswari, a resident of Royapettah and an office superintendent at the DGP office in Chennai was attacked and robbed off her 9-sovereign chain. Buvaneswari and her husband Suresh were returning from a funeral around 11.45pm when two bike-borne men tried to snatch the chain. Suresh triedto fight back but was assaulted by the menwho snatched the chain and fled.


    The Meenambakkam police have registered a case and trying to identify the robbers.
