The police on Wednesday arrested four people, including a woman and a juvenile, in two cases of ganja peddling.
Chennai
The arrested were identified as P Pushpavalli (39), her son P Paul and a 14-year-old boy from Ambedkar Nagar in Adambakkam in the city. The fourth in custody is J Vincent (48), from Amanampakkam in Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram district.
The Adambakkam police got information that ganja was being stored in and supplied from a house in Adambakkam.
The police posted watch-out units and the house was under the scanner. After they got ‘credible’ information that the house was a ganja ‘collection and distribution’ point, the police concluded the stakeout and surrounded the house onWednesday night.
A team entered the house and arrested Pushpavalli, her son and a juvenile. The police recovered 30 packets of ganja, a total of 2 kg. They also recovered Rs 30,000, knives, and 13 smartphones.
Inquiries revealed that Pushpavalli and her son used to supply ganja. They also deployed miscreants for chain-snatching and robberies, the police said. Both of them were produced before a magistrate and remanded injudicial custody.
In another incident, the Chengalpattu taluk police got a tip-off that ganja was being supplied from a house in Amanampakkam village. The police on Wednesday checked the house and found 3 kg ganja. The police said Vincent and his wife Jamuna (40) sold ganja. Jamuna could not be arrested, sources said. They used to procure ganja from Andhra Pradesh, officers said.
