Squatters evicted from Marina Loop Road
The Greater Chennai Corporation evicted 20 families who were living on the platforms along the Marina Loop Road on Friday. These families would be resettled in Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) flats.

According to an official from the Corporation, the TNSCB has evicted nearly 400 families from the nearby slums. “Although many families had shifted to other places, a few of them erected temporary huts on the platform and stayed put. Some fish vendors also opened their shops on the road,” the official said.
On Friday, the families were evicted and the huts that they built on the platform were removed. “The TNSCB will hand over tenements to the slum dwellers after the construction of the apartment is completed. Till then, the slum dwellers should stay in other places,” the official said.
It may be noted that the fishermen are against the Loop Road citing the road is affecting their day-to-day activities.
