Eight arrested for youth’s murder over bursting of crackers

The arrested were identified as S Rahul (23), his brother S Gokul (20), M Sivakumar (43), his son Prabu (20), Arul Raj (21), Ajith Kumar (18) and two juveniles. All of them are residents of Perumbakam Slum Clearance Board quarters. Police have also seized the knives used for the murder.

On Tuesday, when the deceased, Sandeep, was returning home, Rahul, Gokul, Prabu and Sivakumar were bursting crackers and they did not give way for him. A fight broke out between the groups over this and the rival gang attacked Sandeep with knives before escaping from the spot. Sandeep, who was rushed to a hospital, was declared brought dead. The Pallikaranai police registered a case and were searching for the gang.

The Police arrested four of the gang initially and after inquiry, Arul Raj and Ajith Kumar were also nabbed with two juveniles. Police found that Arul Raj was involved in several chain snatching cases and recovered nine sovereigns from him.
