    Festival rush: MTC to ply 250 specials round-the-clock

    As the city is gearing up to celebrate Deepavali, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has decided to field 250 special buses, which would be operated round the clock to help thousands of commuters in the next three days. These special buses, introduced on city streets from Friday, are expected to be operated till the eve of Deepavali.

    The special buses will be operated from six bus depots – the satellite terminus in Madhavaram, KK Nagar bus depot, MEPZ, Tambaram railway station bus stop, Poonamallee bus depot and Dr MGR bus depot in Koyambedu.


    According to a press note from the Corporation, 10 buses on route numbers 121 cut and 121 F will leave from Koyambedu and Tambaram depots to the newly-opened satellite terminus in Madhavaram; 5 buses (route number 121 H) will leave from Tambaram to Kaviarasu Kannadasan Nagar; three buses (57 F) from High Court will ply to Karanodai; five buses (57 F) from Koyambedu to Sengundram; and five buses (157) from Tiruvottriyur to Red Hills.


    On bus routes 65 B, 66, 49A, 54, 153 and 101, 51 buses from Poonamallee will ply to Ambattur estate, Tambaram, T Nagar, Broadway, Koyambedu and Tiruvottriyur. In addition, two buses on route number 54 F will be operated from Mandaveli to Poonamallee, while two buses (route 154) will run from T Nagar to Poonamallee.


    From various depots across the city, including Tiruvottriyur, Madhavaram, Anna Square, Broadway, MKB Nagar, Avadi, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Kelambakkam, Ennore, Tiruporur, Kundrathur, Kannagi Nagar and Vallalar Nagar, 45 buses will be operated to Koyambedu, added a press note from the Corporation.
