Fake CBI officer held for cheating job seeker of Rs 29 lakh
The Central Crime Branch sleuths of anti-job fraud wing have arrested a 38-year-old man for cheating a job seeker of Rs 29 lakh on the promise of getting him a job as sub-inspector.
Chennai
The accused, Shabeer Ahmed of Anakaputhur, claimed to his neighbours that he was a CBI officer, said police. He also had a fake identity card, photos of him in uniform and was using a beacon Light on his car to convince people.
In 2014, J Jo Clement (25) of Anakaputhur was waiting for Staff Selection Commission exam results in the hope of landing a job, when he received a call from an anonymous person. The man on the other side told Jo Clement he would get him a sub-inspector post on the payment of Rs 5 lakh.
Jo Clement on suspicion approached Shabeer Ahmed believing that he is a real CBI officer to find out whether the caller is trustworthy. Shabeer Ahmed, who realised that it is an opportunity to fleece him, told him he himself would get him the job. Subsequently, Jo Clement gave him Rs 5.26 lakh.
While Shabeer Ahmed absconded with the sum, he promised Jo Clement that his relatives would take care of his job. Later, a few more men approached him claiming to be Shabeer’s friends and received Rs 23.74 lakh from him on several occasions.
After realising that he has been cheated, Jo Clement submitted a petition at Commissioner’s office and it was investigated by the anti-job fraud wing of CCB. They arrested Shabeer Ahmed who had been absconding and remanded him in judicial custody. During the investigation, police found that Shabeer Ahmed has cheated many others in the same way, along with his accomplices. A hunt has been launched for his associates.
