Metrowater mandates OTP to buy tanker water
In a move to secure the ‘Dial for Water’ and “Dial for Septic Tank Clearance’ system, the Chennai Metropolitan Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has mandated one-time password (OTP) to avail of the services.

According to a CMWSSB press release, the consumers should share the OTP with the driver of water tanker or sewage lorry. “The unique PIN (OTP) will be sent to the customers’ mobile phone through SMS while booking for the services,” the release added.
The services will not be provided to the customers who fail to share the OTP with drivers. “Also, further bookings will not be entertained if the PIN is not shared with the driver,” the release said. The new system comes into effect from Thursday. To avail the services, residents can visit www.chennaimetrowater.tn.nic.in or contact the metrowater call centre at the head office through 044 4567 4567.
Meanwhile, CMWSSB has appealed to the public to harvest rainwater during Northeast Monsoon.
“In Chennai, aquifers generally depend on Northeast Monsoon. This recharge helps to improve the groundwater level and it is sustainable up to summer months,” a Metrowater press statement said.
The statement also added that the rainwater harvesting structures would prevent stagnating of rainwater on the streets. “Apart from rooftop harvesting, rainwater collected around the building should be diverted to recharge well through a channel,” the Metrowater said.
According to a rough calculation by the Metrowater, 2,400 sq ft plot would ensure harvesting 14,62,720 litres per year as the Chennai’s average annual rainfall is 1200 mm. Public who seek technical details about harvesting rainwater can contact 044 28454080 and 044 45674567.
