City doctor bags Kritzinger award
In another moment of pride for the state and the country, an ophthalmologist from the city became the first Indian and the first woman internationally to receive the prestigious Kritzinger Memorial Award at the Annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) held in Chicago, recently.

Dr Soosan Jacob, Director and Head of Dr Agarwal’s Refractive and Cornea Foundation of the Dr Agarwal’s Group of Eye Hospitals, Chennai, received the eminent award for her numerous innovative techniques and devices in the fields of cornea, refractive, cataract and glaucoma surgery that have helped improve patient care and outcomes internationally.
The award, which recognises an individual who embodies the clinical, educational and investigative qualities of the late Dr Michiel Kritzinger — who was one of the foremost eye surgeons in the world — is presented every year at the AAO meeting which, with an annual attendance of nearly 23,000, is the biggest eye conference.
