Drag racer who rode off with city man’s luxury bike nabbed
The Seven Wells police on Friday arrested a 22-year-old drag racer, who had been stealing high-end bikes and selling them online. His modus operandi included posing like a prospective customer and stealing the bike while doing the test ride.

Police came to know about his activities after a complaint from Afradeen from Seven Wells. He had posted an advertisement on OLX a week ago stating that his bike worth more than Rs 4.5 lakh was for sale. Within hours, he got a call from one Niroshan seeking the details. The same day, he approached Afradeen and took the bike on a test ride. During the ride Niroshan stopped the bike saying he wanted to check the brakes. When Afradeen got down, he sped away. Niroshan had also used a mobile phone of auto rickshaw driver to avoid being tracked by the police.
Seven Wells police station special team headed by crime inspector M Thavamani nabbed Niroshan during a vehicle check on Thursday night. When they questioned him, the police found that Niroshan already had a bike theft case against him in T Nagar where he had targeted owners of high-end bikes who tried to sell it. Police said that he used the stolen bike to take part in illegal races. He used to sell the them in Puducherry. Police said Niroshan has completed BSc in catering. He is living in Valsaravakkam with his uncle, while his mother is in Canada.
