A 40-year-old man, who allegedly raped a Class 8 girl near Madurantakam, was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Sunday, police said.
The arrested man, identified as Nagadas, a resident of Siruperpandi village near Madurantakam, was a painter. The assault took place when the victim, a 13-year-old girl, was alone at her home two days ago. Her parents, who are daily wage labourers, were out for work at the time of the incident.
Nagadas, who was well known to the victim’s family, went to the girl’s house. He told the girl that her mother asked her to accompany him to some place.
“Believing that, the girl went along with him. He took her to an isolated place and sexually assaulted her. Later, she narrated the incident to her parents,” the police sources said.
Following a complaint with the Orathi police, the accused Nagadas was arrested and remanded in judicial custody. The case was later shifted to the Chengalpattu all-women police station. Further investigation is on.
