Close to 100 sanitary workers staged a protest inside the Chengalpattu municipality on Monday demanding action against a DMK man, who allegedly attacked one of the workers.

On Friday the sanitary workers were cleaning Kasi Street in the fourth ward under Chengalpattu Municipality. While they were cleaning, Mohamed Hussian Althaf (35) of the same locality picked up a quarrel with them for not cleaning properly and also for not replacing a broken dustbin.

The workers asked him to file a complaint with the municipal commissioner or the sanitary officer. This led to a verbal altercation after he allegedly attacked one of the workers.

Later the workers filed a complaint to the municipal commissioner. They also lodged a complaint with the Chengalpattu town police.

Since, there was no action initiated, on Monday morning, nearly 100 sanitary workers held silent protest inside the municipal premises and demanded to take action against the attacker.

Later at 2 pm the Municipal commissioner Maari Selvi held peace talks with them and promised that action will be taken against the DMK man and requested them to re-start their works.
