For Jaishree Iyer, vice president of an IT company from T Nagar who has been busy with a heap of invititations from across the city, the choice was between Gadwal and Banarasi silks.
“Though I opt for a traditional look during Navarathri, I don’t deck up like I do for weddings. Even if I wear Kanjeevarams, I go for the light weight silks with thread work. Of course, malli poo is part of the ensemble, which is accentuated by jhumkas,” said Jaishree.
Colours were assigned for each day of Navarathri. This time the colour theme for Day 1 was blue, followed by yellow and green. This information is so crucial that it finds a mention in the invitation cards too. The reason: group photographs and selfies. Heritage enthusiast Sreemathy Mohan, who has brought out her Khadi and Ikkat silks and Banarasi tissues from her wardrobe, has been taking care to ensure that she sticks to the colour of the day. “I don’t believe in wearing corresponding colours for the day, but when I meet friends during kolu visits, I make it a point to wear the specified colour as the photographs come out well,” said the resident of Choolaimedu with a smile.
