Sources in the city police said that sub-inspectors, Jagadeesan and Raja, attached to the MKB Nagar police station, and Kodungaiyur police station constable Shyam were transferred to the AR wing by the city police Commissioner AK Viswanathan.

Karthik of Bhakthavatsalam Colony, who was arrested along with two other persons on Saturday night in connection with a robbery case, suddenly fell sick on Sunday afternoon. The police officers took him to a private hospital, from where he was referred to Stanley Medical College Hospital as he developed chest pain.

However, Karthik succumbed without responding to treatment. While Karthik’s kin staged a protest raising suspicion on his death, the Commissioner has ordered the transfer of the police personnel, who were involved in the case. Meanwhile, a magistrate inquiry has also been initiated to probe the death of Karthik. Security was beefed up in Bhaktavatsalam Colony and Stanley Hospital.
