65-yr-old crushed to death as public toilet falls on him
A 65-year-old man was crushed to death after a public toilet built by Chennai Corporation collapsed unable to bear the weight of a 200-litre overhead water tank with its full capacity in Ramapuram on Monday.

The deceased, M Ramalingam of Gandhi Nagar, Ramapuram, always used the public toilet as he didn’t have a toilet in his house. On Monday morning when he was inside the toilet, the ceiling collapsed and the overhead tank with its full capacity fell on him.
Ramalingam, who sustained injuries, was rushed to Government Royapettah Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Based on a complaint by Chennai Corporation Assistant Engineer, Royala Nagar police have registered a case of accidental death andare investigating.
Sources said theRamalingam’s 22-year-old daughter’s marriage was scheduled to take place in December. It was only a week ago the familyfixed the dates forthe engagement andmarriage.
Two men asphyxiated in Perungudi
Two workers died due to asphyxiation while they were desilting a well at a residence in Perungudi on Monday.
The deceased persons, Arumugam (52) and Kumar (45), were working at the residence of Lakshmanan at Tiruvalluvar Nagar. A few minutes after the duo entered the 24-ft deep well, they became unconscious and fell. On alert, the fire and rescue personnel from Tiruvanmiyur rushed to the spot and tried to rescue them, but in vain.
Te fire personnel, led by officer Ravichandran, entered the well with breathing apparatus. “The well was only four-metre wide and we had to bring out the deceased one after another,” said officer Ravichandran. The Thoraipakkam police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
