According to a Chennai Corporation official, tenders have been floated to set up four smart classes in Royapuram Zone. “We are operating 28 smart classes and given training to teachers of these schools,” the official added.
New smart classes would come up at Chennai Middle School at Chinnandimadam on TH Road, Chennai Higher Secondary School at Kalyanapuram, Chennai Higher Secondary School on TH Road and Chennai Higher Secondary School at Pater Nagar 4th Street. The estimated cost of the new smart classes is nearly Rs 8 lakhs.
Meanwhile, School Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan inaugurated a smart classroom at the Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Porur on Tuesday. Automated attendance registers were also being installed in the school on a trial basis, before setting up the facility in other schools in a few weeks. Using this, SMS messages would be sent to the parents if their wards are absent from the school, officials said.
“The State government is committed to complete the process of opening smart classrooms across TN by November end,” said the minister, adding that work on the biometric attendance for teachers would begin by the end of the year.
Accompanied by ministers, K Pandiarajan and P Benjamin, Sengottaiyan inspected the smart classroom and also interacted with the students.
