The deceased, Nikesh Nallapillai, was a Non-Resident Indian and second year MBBS student of Sri Ramachandra Medical University (SRMC) in Porur, said police. His father Manivannan, a US citizen, was in Dubai for business while his mother was in Florida when the incident took place. Nikesh was living here with his grandmother Vasuki.

He was depressed for the past few days and had earlier attempted suicide by consuming poison, said police quoting his grandmother Vasuki. On Monday afternoon, Nikesh returned home and had lunch with Vasuki. He jumped through the sliding window from the seventh floor after this, police said. Neighbours rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. As Nikesh has deleted contents of his phone, the police could not make a headway in the case immediately.
