65-year-old falls to death as second floor balcony collapses

The deceased, Saroja Ammal, a widow, was living in the house for more than 20 years while her children were married off.

On Sunday evening, Saroja Ammal was sitting on the balcony when it suddenly collapsed. She fell from about 30 feet height along with the debris, police said. She was rushed to Government Royapettah Hospital where she succumbed to injuries. The Pondy Bazaar police registered a case and after preliminary inquiry, they said that the structure was weak. 

In another accident, a 25-year-old man slipped from third floor of an apartment in Tiruvottiyur and died on Sunday night. The deceased, Saravanan of Namakkal district, was working as a driver and stayed in a rented house on Esanimoorthi Temple Street in Tiruvottiyur. 

On Sunday night, he slipped from the third floor of the building and was rushed to a nearby private hospital by neighbours. However, doctors declared him brought dead. The Tiruvottiyur police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
