6 Kasimedu fishermen missing in sea
Six fishermen from Kasimedu who ventured into sea on a mechanised fibre boat on September 26 have not returned yet. Based on a complaint from the worried families, the Indian Coast Guard have launched a search operation to locate them.
Fishermen Aasai Thambi, Muthu and four others, who had left for deep sea fishing on September 26, were supposed to return on October 1. But as there was no sign of them returning even as the Regional Meteorology Department issued a red alert, panicked family members approached the State Fisheries Department officials. On their alert, Coast Guard personnel have launched a search hunt for the missing fishermen.
Meanwhile, an unidentified man jumped into Cooum river from Chintadripet bridge on Thursday afternoon. He is feared drowned, as officials could not trace the man till late night. It was the passers-by who noticed a man jumping into the river on Thursday afternoon and alerted the fire control room.
TNFRS personnel from nearby fire stations rushed to the spot and launched a search operation for the missing man. However, their efforts were in vain so far. The search operation had to be abandoned due to poor light and would resume on Friday, officials said. The Triplicane police have registered a case on the incident.
