Two women robbed of gold, role of Iranian gang suspected
In two separate incidents, two women were robbed of 11 sovereigns each at Velachery and Adyar on Thursday.
Chennai
In the first incident, 79-year-old Umadevi had stepped out of her apartment to buy medicines from a nearby pharmacy around 12 noon when three men intercepted her. They allegedly told her they were police personnel and advised her not to wear jewels while venturing out alone.
Later, they removed her gold chain and two bangles under the pretext of putting it in her handbag. When she returned home and checked, the jewels were missing. Based on her complaint, the Velachery police have registered a case.Â
Similarly, Mangalam (62) of Kasturba Nagar in Adyar was also robbed of her 11 sovereigns outside her house a few hours later. Police suspect the role of an Iranian gang behind both the incidents and have collected details of those who were released from the prison recently.
