Most Tamil Nadu men unaware of BPH, say doctors
While sudden problems pertaining to urination is taken very lightly, its link to Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) – a common condition among older men - is not known among men in Tamil Nadu. Besides, doctors allege that the enlargement of the prostate is sometimes mistaken as cancerous, which is not true.

At an event in the city on Tuesday, to break this myth and create awareness on BPH, doctors said that aging men tend to have larger prostates than younger men.
Stating that the incidence of BPH increases dramatically after the age of 50, Dr M G Rajamanickam, Consultant Urologist, Bharathiraja Hospital, said, “Prostatitis and BPH are common prostatic diseases that affect millions of men worldwide. However, it is important to note that BPH is not prostate cancer and does not make one more likely to get it and it is essential to refrain from avoiding problems related to one’s urination.”
