Based on a tip-off that a huge consignment of ganja was being transported by road to be smuggled to Sri Lanka, the DRI officials intercepted a speeding car near Sullurpeta. When they checked thoroughly, they found a large quantity of ganja concealed in the boot and rear seat of the vehicle.

Detailed interrogation of the two persons in the car revealed that they were smuggling the contraband from northern coastal Andhra Pradesh to Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu, from where it would be smuggled out by sea to Sri Lanka.

The vehicle had a fake registration number, while the officials also found few other number plates in the car. The duo was arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is on.
