T Malaimathi Vijayan, attached to the Prohibition Enforcement Wing, Washermanpet, noted in his letter to Joint Commissioner (North) that he had not giving the consent for deducting his one -day salary as contribution for Kerala flood relief fund.

“When Chennai floods happened in 2015, Kerala government employees had not contributed their salary for flood relief. So I am opposing the deduction of one day’s salary as contribution,” he clarified in his letter.

When contacted, a senior officer noted that the decision was personal and the government has asked for only voluntary contribution. “It is not mandatory for all to contribute. Many people may not contribute,” the police officer noted.
