The woman, hailing from the US, was living with her male friend at Velachery. Around 3 am, a few passers-by spotted the semi-naked woman sitting on the roadside and smoking near Vellai Gate in Kancheepuram.
Soon, Kanchi Taluk police were informed and a team of women police rushed to the spot. She was given clothes and was taken to the Kancheepuram SP’s office. Later
the woman was sent to a home in Panaiyur on ECR.
Police said the woman was staying at an apartment with Vimal, a software engineer, at Velachery. Vimal lost his job a few days ago. He dropped the woman in Kancheepuram and escaped, said police.
The Velachery police visited Vimal’s house and found that he had vacated the house. On Friday, the woman was handed over to US Consulate, which arranged her travel to the US. Police have registered a case and are on the lookout for Vimal. It is not clear how the woman befriended Vimal.
