Offshore vessel ICGS Vijaya joins eastern seaboard patrol

The 98m OPV, second in the series that has been designed and built indigenously by private sector firm Larsen & Toubro, is fitted with advanced navigation and communication equipment, sensor and machinery. ICGS Vijaya is commanded by Commandant Harinder Jit Singh, and manned by 12 officers and 91 men.

The ship is equipped with an Integrated Bridge System (IBS), Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), Automated Power Management System (APMS) and High-Power External Firefighting (EFF) system. It is designed to carry one twin-engine helicopter and four high-speed boats including two inflatable boats for boarding operation, search and rescue, law enforcement and maritime patrol.

The ship can carry limited pollution response equipment to contain oil spills at sea. 

The ship, on joining the Coast Guard, will be based at Paradip, Odisha, and would be deployed extensively for surveillance in the Exclusive Economic Zone. The induction of this patrol vessel would give a fillip to maritime protection off eastern seaboard in general, especially in Odisha and West Bengal.
