44-year-old sets himself ablaze, accuses tenant

R Dinesh Kumar was admitted to Kilpauk Medical College with 60 per cent burns. After police picked up Nithyanandam, whom the victim had accused, the investigation revealed that the he does not have any role in the incident. 

Police said that Dinesh and his mother Gajalakshmi have an ongoing tiff over the ownership of the three-storey building on Tiruvalluvar Salai. 

On Wednesday night, Dinesh’s wife Vimala lodged a complaint that Nithyanandam set Dinesh Kumar ablaze. When police picked up Nithyanandam for interrogation, he denied the charges. Police also inquired other tenants in the building and one of them reportedly saw Dinesh running out of the house engulfed in fire on the second floor, while Nithyanandam’s house is on the ground floor. Also, police found that Dinesh took kerosene from the stove in his house and there were signs that he immolated self within his house.
