‘Conservation photography is the need of the hour’
Being a nature lover and a photographer of the natural world, Prakash Ramakrishnan always wanted to convey the importance of conservation photography in today’s day and age. Usually, wildlife photography celebrates the beauty and wonder of the natural world. But it has become a huge responsibility to shed light on the threats faced by the animals.

“Though littering is prohibited inside the forests, many still continue to throw away waste recklessly. People are unaware of the environmental issues and threats that a species face due to this act. It’s our duty to conserve and preserve forests. This is where the power of photography shows up — it plays a crucial role in conservation,” he says.
Conservation photography helps in environmental conservation, wildlife conservation and habitat conservation. “It comes when the photographer develops empathy towards the natural world. If you check the history, there are many powerful images that brought in a major impact in conservation. I urge more people to come forward and focus on conservation photography. Since photography is a powerful medium, it’s easy to motivate people to take care of Mother Earth,” says Prakash.
He is also miffed about how the new-gen photographers aren’t respecting animals’ privacy and barge into their environment. “Photography has become a competitive field and these days, nobody studies their subject and is only bothered about the output. As a wildlife photographer, one needs to do thorough research on the subject and its habitat. This will help you understand more about wildlife.
The photographer has been invited to talk about sensitive photography at the first edition of TEDxNapierBridge on September 16.
