Pawsome pets: Prep your canine for pet-friendly weddings

If you ever get an opportunity to take your pet for a wedding that allows it, here are a few quick, easy and adorable ways in which you can style your furry friend. All you have to do is reach out into your closet and pick what suits their personality best.

    Hair bows

If you have some spare bows lying around in your dresser, bunch your dog’s fur and gently slip it on. If the pin might tug on the fur and hurt your dog, tie up a tuft in a cloth scrunchie and glue the bow onto it.

    Waistcoat or jacket

This four-year-old Labrador Retriever is the most pampered member of her household and you can clearly tell by her picture. On an occasion the family celebrated, cute pooch Caramel was dolled up in her ‘hooman’ sister’s pretty waistcoat with mirror and threadwork. What a great idea!

    Ties and scarves

If your pet won’t be up to monkey business, slipping on a tie in a contrasting colour to its fur can work wonders! A square-shaped scarf, folded in half to form a triangle can also be used as an alternative for a tie. Pick a pretty silk cloth and tie it around the neck; embellish by sticking some artificial flowers where the knot is.

    Bindi and jewellery

This pretty poser looks ready to get the party started in a yellow frock. A great tip her owners gave us is to put on a necklace to add some glam. One can be generous and slip on a gold chain but ensure the pet doesn’t yank it off; to be on the safer side, go street shopping to pick up a great neckpiece that’s easy on the pocket too. Adding a bindi on your girl doggie’s forehead is an option.

    Collar from old shirt

If you have a men’s shirt that’s old, turn it into a DIY collar for your pet by buttoning down the shirt first. Lay it on a flat surface, remove all the creases and carefully cut out the collar portion alone. Unfasten the button and put it around your pet’s neck and put back the button.
