Woman might have killed her daughter a day before, say cops
A day after the murder of two children by their mother shocked the city, police secured the absconding woman in Nagercoil and brought her to Chennai on Sunday.

Police suspect that her daughter Karunika might have died on Thursday night itself after Abirami confessed that she mixed sleeping pills for husband and children the previous night as well.
Police took the main accused Abirami’s lover Sundaram along with them to Nagercoil on Saturday and called her from his phone to come to a particular spot, where she was surrounded and arrested.
In her statement to police, she has reportedly said that she mixed sleeping pills in milk on Thursday night after celebrating her husband Vijay’s birthday. However, except her daughter Karunika, it did not affect the other two.
On Friday morning, when Vijay wanted to kiss his daughter as usual before leaving the office, Abirami did not allow him claiming that she would wake up.
Police suspect that Karunika (4) might have died on Thursday night itself, while Abirami mixed heavy dose of sleeping pills again in the milk on Friday night and gave it to her son Ajay (6) and waited for Vijay to return from work.
As it was the month-end, Vijay who works in the loans section of a private bank in T Nagar had to stay back in office, thus narrowly escaped. The incident came to light when Vijay returned home on Saturday morning and found both his children dead with foaming mouth.
Based on his complaint, Kundrathur police registered a case and nabbed Abiramai’s lover, Sundaram (23), who works as a cashier at a biriyani shop near Kundrathur.
Based on his inputs, Abirami’s two-wheeler was recovered from the parking lot of Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus and CCTV footage retrieved from there showed Abirami reaching the spot with her face covered with a shawl.Â
Their plan was to escape to Nagercoil first and then move to Tiruvanathapuram to start life afresh, said police.
Abirami befriended Sundaram as she often went to the restaurant he worked, with the family. It later developed as a relationship between them. Vijay, who came to know about it, warned Abirami to discontinue the affair two weeks ago. However, Abiramai allegedly abandoned the family and went to stay with Sundaram. After Vijay brought her back, Abirami and Sundaram decided to kill Vijay and the children. Abirami and Sundaram were remanded in judicial custody. Meanwhile, the last rites for the children were performed on Saturday night after autopsy at Chromepet GH.
