SP abuse case can be shifted to CB-CID: Vishaka panel
The recently-constituted Vishaka Committee in the Police Department has recommended the transfer of the sexual harassment complaint lodged by a woman officer in the rank of an SP against a senior office in the rank of IG to the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID), as it does not have powers to meet the demands of the complainant.
Chennai
The internal complaints committee, which met again on August 29 had summoned the aggrieved woman officer but she did not appear for inquiry.
In her third representation dated August 28, she had reiterated her demand for the transfer of her superior officer, an Inspector General, from his present post and registration of a criminal case against him. She had also requested reconstitution of Vishaka Committee.
So the committee headed by ADGP Seema Agarwal decided that it would be just and proper to forward the complaint to CB-CID for registration of a criminal case and investigation, as the committee itself was not a competent authority to decide on the transfer of an officer.
ADGP S Arunachalam, DIG PC Thenmozhi, retired additional SP Saraswathi and senior administrative officer Ramesh are the other members of the committee. The woman superintendent had made three representations against her superior officer on August 4, 27 and 28.
In her complaint lodged on August 3, the SP had alleged that the IG had tried to sexually assault her when she had entered his chamber for office work on August 1.
