Man jumps through window of moving bus, run over by lorry
Passengers on a government bus that was travelling on the Chennai-Tiruchy National Highway near Maduranthagam were in for a shock on Wednesday morning, when a passenger killed himself by jumping out of the window and the man was crushed under the wheels of a container truck that was coming behind. Police suspect the 39-year-old took the extreme step over land dispute with family members.

Sources said the deceased, identified as Murugan Annamalai, a construction worker and a resident of Vickramathithan Street in MGR Nagar in the city, was seen arguing with someone over the phone before he leapt out of the vehicle to kill himself. Murugan is married, and has children.
According to police, Murugan had gone to visit his sister in Tiruvannamalai a few day ago. On Wednesday, he was returning to the city in a government State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus. Fellow passengers told police that while he was on the bus, Murugan was having a heated argument with someone over the phone for a long time.
When the bus was nearing Karunkuzhi village near Maduranthagam around 9.30 am, Murugan, who was seated near the window, leaned outside. While the other passengers thought he was going to vomit, Murugan shocked them by suddenly jumping out of the window. He landed on the road and was run over by a container lorry that was coming right behind the bus. On the receipt of information, Maduranthagam police team arrived at the spot and retrieved the body and sent it to Maduranthagam Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police suspect that the reason for his suicide could be a land dispute. “Murugan had some land problem within his family and he had also filed a complaint at the Guduvancherry police station earlier. His conversation in the phone on the issue could have made him frustrated, leading to the extreme step,” police said.
Maduranthagam police have registered a case and are trying to find out with whom was he speaking. Further investigation is on.
