Police after investigation said that the accused D Velu (41) threw a grinding stone on Rajendran’s head on Monday evening. Rajendran reportedly asked Velu to snap ties with his wife Devi.
Rajendran was an auto driver while his wife Devi worked as a construction labourer and the couple had two children. Meanwhile, Devi developed a relationship with her co-worker Velu and often visited at her house when Rajendran was out for work. Rajendran who came to know about it warned Devi leading to a quarrel between the couple.
On Monday morning, Rajendran and Devi fought again after which the latter left for work, while Rajendran stayed back. When she returned in the evening, Rajendran was lying in a pool of blood with his head smashed with a grinding stone.
Based on her complaint, Kundrathur police registered a case and verified CCTV footage in the locality. They saw a man entering Rajendran’s house and leaving the premises a few minutes later. Devi identified him as Velu after which they secured him from his sister’s house in Washermanpet.
During the interrogation, Velu allegedly told police that he decided to murder Rajendran as he verbally abused him over the illicit affair. While he was remanded in judicial custody, police are inquiring whether Devi has any role in the murder.
