    Addressing media persons at an function honouring home entrepreneurs, held late Sunday evening, Kamal also congratulated MK Stalin on his most likely elevation as the president of the DMK. 

    Kamal said that despite being a free country for 72 years, India is still plagued by rampant corruption. He said that the cesspool of bribery and corruption must be eradicated. 

    The 63-year-old also reiterated his commitment to combating corruption in the State by saying that his first act if he were to be elected Chief Minister would be to bring into effect a strong Lok Ayukta.

    Kamal added that it was important for citizens to be politically aware.

    He urged them to take part in democratic processes stating that even if they don’t engage in politics every day, they must do so once in five years. 

    On the question of a woman superintendent of police levelling allegations of sexual harassment against an Inspector General attached to the DVAC, Kamal said that such instances of humans turning on each other have been going on for years, and that we as a society must work together to dismantle such evils.
