Retired DIG’s wife falls prey to snatchers, loses five sovereigns
For chain snatchers, all that matters is what they rob and not whom they rob. A bikeborne duo snatched a five-sovereign chain from a woman in Besant Nagar late on Sunday, who happens to be the wife of a retired DIG.

The victim, Ponnal (58), is the wife of NGK Pillai, a police officer who retired from the Intelligence Bureau in the rank of DIG. A resident of Tamil Nadu Housing Board flats in Indira Nagar in Besant Nagar, Ponnal went out with her family members for dinner.
Around 10.30 pm, she was walking back home along with others on 4th Main Road. Then, two men on a bike trailed Ponnal and snatched her chain. Though her family members tried to chase the duo, they managed to escape. Later, Ponnal lodged a complaint at Shastri Nagar Police station. A case has been registered and CCTV footage was retrieved from the locality to identify the snatchers.
Meanwhile, a bike-borne trio robbed a woman of a five-sovereign chain at knifepoint near Madambakkam on Sunday night.
The victim was identified as K Vimala (45) of Yeshwanth Nagar in Madambakkam near Tambaram.
On Sunday night, Vimala was returning home after buying vegetables.
When she was walking on Indra Nagar Main Road, three masked men on a two-wheeler snatched her gold chain.
When Vimala cried for help, they came back and threatened her with knifes. After Vimala fell unconscious, they fled the spot. Later, a few passers-by woke her up and Vimala filed a complaint with the Selaiyur police. Police are trying to identify the robbers with the help of CCTV footage in the locality.
Mobile phone snatched from pedestrian
A bike-borne duo snatched mobile phone from a pedestrian in Mylapore on Sunday night. The victim, Balaji (29) of Ulundurpet, is working at a popular restaurant in Mylapore and was waiting for a friend around 11.30 pm on Sunday night. Two men on a bike, without wearing helmets, approached him and snatched the mobile phone from his hand and escaped in a flash. Based on his complaint, Mylapore police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
