Notorious gangster held at gunpoint, hunt on for 2 aides
‘Ennore’ Dhanasekaran, a gangster notorious for running an extortion racket was arrested at gunpoint near Manali New Town while his two aides managed to escape on Saturday. He has five murder cases pending against him, including that of North Madras Thermal Power Plant contractor James Paul recently, apart from the several attempt to murder and extortion cases.

Police officers intensified the hunt for him after the eight men, who surrendered in Poonamallee court in connection with James Paul’s murder, reportedly confessed that Dhanasekaran was behind the crime. They said that the contractor was allegedly killed after he refused to part with Rs 1 crore even as the gangster mounted pressure on him.
Following this, the police formed a special team comprising inspectors of Manali New Town and Washermanpet under the supervision of Joint Commissioner Prem Anand Sinha to nab the suspect.
Meanwhile, a trio intercepted a lorry driver and robbed him of Rs 2,500 in Manali New Town on Saturday. Based on his complaint, a case was registered and police found that Dhanasekaran and his aides were involved in the robbery. Based on a tip-off that he was hiding in Manali New Town, the police combed the locality and surrounded his car at gunpoint.
Dhanasekaran, who attempted to escape, suffered injuries on his hands and legs before he was secured. A machete, the car and Rs 2,500 in cash were seized from him. He was remanded in judicial custody on Sunday. However, the police said that his aides managed to flee the spot. They were identified as ‘Thanjavur’ Mathi and ‘Ulundurpet’ Mummoorthi and a hunt has been launched to nab them.
S Dhanasekaran (37) of Annai Sathya Nagar in Ennore is notorious for extortion from businessmen and industries. He is also accused in the murder of Kalishwaran alias Kaali of Ennore in 2004, Karuppu Raja of Redhills in 2005, Periamuthu and Ashok in 2009. He has 40 cases pending against him and has been detained under the Goondas Act for five times.
