Form expert panel to assess dam safety: DMK

Claiming that the washing away of shutters and piers of Upper Anaicut has exposed the slackness of the AIADMK regime, Stalin wondered why the ruling dispensation, which boasts about allocating funds for dam safety, had failed to forecast the disaster after a safety review in the dam. 

The government should own full responsibility for failing to maintain the shutters of Mukkombu Dam and piers of Kollidam Bridge. Stalin also advised the government to constitute an expert committee of PWD officials to assess the safety of dams not only in Cauvery Delta but the entire state and undertake maintenance works based on the recommendations of the committee without delay. 

Meanwhile, the women’s wing of DMK led by party Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi on Thursday resolved to elect Stalin the president of the party. In a resolution adopted to this effect at its meeting held in the city, the women wing recalled Stalin’s performance in various capacities and exuded confidence that he would steer the party on the path laid by Karunanidhi and uphold social justice, state autonomy and develop Tamil language. “The women’s wing wholeheartedly wishes and proposes Stalin to take over as the president of DMK,” the resolution said.
