Jagathambal reunites with her family after the injury

    Chennai

The injured Jagathambal was rescued, treated and reunited with her family members, thanks to Banyan, a NGO for doing so.

After the accident took place, an IT employee contacted Ratheesh K Ram of Banyan for rescuing the woman.  “We at the Banyan Health Centre received a call saying that this woman was in desperate need of help after she had fallen from the stairs. She had suffered severe injuries in her hip and head. We immediately attended to her and admitted her to the nearest hospital where she was administered treatment.”

The sexagenarian chose to stay alone after her husband passed away. Though her relatives and in-laws stayed in the city, none of them wanted to take her home after she moved to Chennai. She therefore camped herself in the corridor of a Church in Sholinganallur.

“Besides giving most of her earnings to her son, she would also lend a helping hand to others who are in need of help, including the flower sellers, drivers and neighbours in the Church. However, after her fall, neither did anyone from the Church nor the people from neighbouring areas come forward to help her,” said another member of the organisation.

After they noticed an improvement in her condition, members of the organisation reunited her with her family. “Her son Mani is a coolie in Salem and we sent her back to Salem with him. Mani said that after his father’s death, she was affected, and they noticed some changes in her. She said that she wanted to earn and look after herself and left home,” the member added.
