Toll plaza staff and vehicle drivers clash near Chengalpattu
Traffic came to a standstill on Chennai-Tiruchy NH-45, popularly known as GST Road, for more than two hours on Monday after a fight broke out between a private bus driver and the staff of a toll plaza near Chengalpattu.

The Paranur toll gate near Chengalpattu has 12 counters and about 100 staff, most of whom from the northern states.Â
Around 5 pm, a private bus from Tiruchy heading to Chennai reached the toll gate and the bus driver, Prabhu (40) from Gingee, paid the toll. When he was about to take the bus, the toll staff allegedly hit the bus with a wooden log from behind, urging the driver to move the bus faster. When they got into an argument over the incident, the staff allegedly started hurling abusive words at the driver. The passengers on the bus and other vehicle came to support the driver and attacking the toll staff.
Chengalpattu DSP rushed to the spot and the public insisted that they arrest the toll gate staff before they vacate the premises. Police detained 32 toll gate staff around 7 pm. The traffic was disrupted for several hours due to the incident.
