Police identified the arrested as M Ganapathi Lal (37) and Kamalesh Kumar (34), both residents of Ayapakkam.
According to the police, the two had been procuring narcotics from Goa and selling it in the city for four months. They were selling sarees before and started drug pedalling recently as they found it is ‘highly’ profitable as the drugs can be sold for double the price.
Police had seized a car and a two-wheeler from them. The two-wheeler had ‘press’ stickers. “They had nothing to do with media. They used it to escape from police while transporting drugs,” an NIB official noted.
Many of their customers were college students. After the students contact them over phone, the duo used to meet them at a stipulated place to deliver the narcotics, noted NIB DSP Purushothaman.
