Tell us about the 10 years of your hospital journey?

After conducting camps and awareness programmes across the country for over 15 years as we started the trust in the early 90s. We set up a hospital in the city to share the expertise acquired over the years. The centre has seen a turnover of 10,000 people over last decade and 1500 have taken up and completed treatment. The focus has been on the quality of care, reaching out to the poor who are in need of the treatment.

What are the challenges in the field of cancer treatment?

Along with creating awareness and managing patients, especially when we want to focus on patients who can be cured, ensuring that the patients complete the treatment has been equally challenging. Many they think they are cured after two sessions of chemotherapy as blood parameters are normal. There are relapses in some cases, making the cure more difficult. In the case of women undergoing treatment for breast cancer, they tend to drop out midway. And many do not understand that follow up is a must even after the cancer is cured.

What is the message for people and patients, in your fight against cancer?

Cancer is preventable--- this the reason why we focus so much on creating awareness through the activities of our trust. Early detection is a big advantage in cancer treatment and most patients need only day care.
