Civic body receives only one complaint of waterlogging in 2 days
The rains of Tuesday may have taken the city by storm but only a few localities experienced waterlogging and the Greater Chennai Corporation’s control room received only a single complaint.
Chennai
Corporation sources said that between Tuesday and Wednesday, they received merely a single complaint of waterlogging from Anna Nagar. However, in certain parts of the city, waterlogging was reported.
Parts of Saidapet, T Nagar and Velachery witnessed water stagnation in certain parts of the neighbourhood. Speaking to DTNext, TVS Jayaraman, a resident of Motilal Street in T Nagar, said that several streets in the locality were waterlogged.
“This is because the storm water drains are not being properly managed. There was water logging not just in my street but others such as Ramasamy street, Venkatesan Street, Ramanathan Street and Ranganathan Street. We have written petitions to the Greater Chennai Corporation to fix the missing links in the drains and ensure they are desilted and ready for the monsoons but little has been done and we continue to suffer,” said the member of T Nagar Residents Welfare Association.
Motorists also found it tough to use stretches of busy roads such as South Boag Road and Greams Road, due to the water stagnation.
“Despite the short spell, our street got waterlogged,” said Rama V, a resident of Jayaraj Street in Saidapet. The Corporation, which conducts a massive clean-up operation of the storm water drains across the city – is yet to begin the exercise this year. A senior Corporation official said that they are in the process of awarding the contract and works will soon be taken up.
