Ramar Pillai warned against opening herbal fuel outlet
Police on Wednesday warned controversial ‘chemist’ Ramar Pillai against opening an outlet in the city to sell herbal fuel.
Chennai
Hailing from Virudhunagar district, Ramar Pillai had hogged the limelight in the 1990s following his claim to have invented a herbal fuel that could be a cheap alternative to petrol and diesel. This ‘fuel’ attracted global attention when it was unveiled, before fetching criticisms of fraud.
Soon, Pillai was arrested after his claims could not be proven scientifically. But recently, notwithstanding the past, Pillai made a comeback, claiming that his herbal petrol and diesel would be available for sale from August 15. He said he would open an outlet near Ambattur in collaboration with a few private parties.
However, when informed about this, Nolambur police summoned Pillai to the station and issued a warning that it would be considered illegal if he opened any outlet without appropriate licence and permission. Following this, Pillai did not open the outlet on Wednesday.
